Orphanages in Venezuela!

Our First Mission Project - Building an Orphanage for Pastor Yolanda in Venezuela

*UPDATE* A team sponsored by Mission Grounds traveled to Venezuela in August, 2007 to continue work on the orphanage. The group was able to form the roof beams; tie the steel support beams out of rebar and ended up pouring over 26 roof support beams. These beams were necessary to add the second floor and a taller roof.

The second floor will be added this fall and the roof should be started by the end of this year also.

The goal is to have the orphanage done by summer next year.

Pastor Yolanda is also planning the start of a new orphanage for Fall 2008.

*PREVIOUS UPDATE* The footings are now dug and poured with concrete and the column supports are also poured with the center re-bar tied and set. The next step is to get the plumbing in place and get the slab prepared for pouring.

Yolanda lives in Barquisimento, Venezuela - a small rural town about eight hours from Caracas, Venezuela. She lives with her husband and three kids, Alfonzo 25, Sarai 14, Claudia 9 and Aaron 8, her mother and one brother. Yolanda is the pastor of the Methodist church named Lugar Altisimo. She is in charge of six day care facilities. Four of them are close by, 2 of the facilities are a 3 mile walk in a place called El Pandito. Yolanda has a special place in her heart for small children. Her dream is to have an orphanage where she can provide physical and spiritual care for homeless children. She has raised several leaders in her church that would work with her in this endeavor.

Construction started on Feb. 14th, 2005 with clearing of the lot. We will have pictures of the construction as we continue on the project. These pictures are of Yolanda standing on the lot last week with some of the children she takes care of.
